Vem Jiboia: A Prayer Song to the Boa

Hapé Music, songs to take rapé with. Medidate with rapé

“Vem Jiboia” (come, boa) is a música de rezo, a prayer song, that calls on the jiboia: the boa of the Amazon forest. This version, “Vem Jiboia II”, has been played more than 48,000 times on SoundCloud.

The song

“Vem Jiboia II” was written by Paulo Henrique, who also plays the percussion, and is sung by Francis and Vinicius Rodrigues, with production by Mahadevamusic and musicalization by Bruno Rubano. The words belong to them, so listen for them in the song itself.

The boa in the forest

Across the Amazon, the jiboia is much more than a snake. For the Huni Kuin, it holds a central place in their stories as a teacher of the forest medicines. Their chant Eskawatã Kayawã ends by calling on “Mother Boa” to bring her strength. A prayer song that calls the boa belongs to the same family of songs.

How to listen

Sit comfortably with your eyes closed, before or after hapé, and let the call of the refrain carry you. A prayer song asks for nothing more than your attention.

A blend for this song

Our Jiboia blend is named for the same great serpent. It’s a blend we describe as one that opens the paths.
