Large Handmade Wooden Black Tepi

This Large Handmade Wooden Black Tepi is a ceremonial applicator for rapéh (also spelled hapé or hapeh), the sacred Amazonian snuff. Unlike a kuripe, which is used for self-application, a tepi is designed for one person to administer the medicine to another — making it the traditional tool of ceremony, prayer, and shared practice.

Carved from a single piece of wood and finished in a deep natural black, this larger tepi offers a comfortable length and steady control for the facilitator. Each piece is handmade and unique, carrying subtle variations in grain, form, and tone that reflect the living material it was shaped from.

Handmade by an Indigenous artisan in the Estrela Brilhante Daime community of Maranhão, Brazil. Only a few are available.
