As a Pajé, or shaman, Assis Kaxinawá together with his ancestral Pajé Kupy Hunikūī and other members of the Pinuyai’s tribe, was entrusted with guiding his people in matters of spirituality and healing. His primary tools are the sacred plant medicines of the Amazon, particularly ayahuasca and rapeh.

Txai Chief Assis Kaxinawá is a spiritual and community leader of the Kaxinawá people (also known as Huni Kuin), an Indigenous group living in the Acre region of the Brazilian Amazon and adjacent areas in Peru. The term “Txai” is a greeting among the Huni Kuin people that means “my other self,” reflecting the importance of fraternity and unity between people. Chief Assis Kaxinawá is known for his deep knowledge of his community’s traditions and spiritual practices, particularly regarding the use of forest medicines like Ayahuasca and Rapé (Hapeh).

Chief Assis not only serves as the leader of his village but also as a cultural ambassador, sharing his people’s practices and knowledge beyond the boundaries of his community. He participates in gatherings, ceremonies, and festivals that promote the preservation of Indigenous culture, while also sharing the ancestral wisdom about his people’s spiritual relationship with the forest and its medicines.

His leadership emphasizes the importance of protecting the Amazon rainforest and the rights of Indigenous peoples, promoting respect for the culture, traditions, and spirituality of his community. Chief Assis is also an advocate for unifying Indigenous and non-Indigenous people, seeking to build bridges of dialogue and understanding between different cultures.

He frequently participates in events and lectures in urban areas, always bringing a message of harmony with nature and the preservation of ancestral knowledge.
